Hello from Rex the Rocket!

rex rocketHi Kids! I'm Rex the Rocket and welcome to Alabama Pediatric Dental Associates & Orthodontics! Do you love having healthy teeth and gums like I do? I've learned a lot about keeping my teeth and gums healthy and strong from the doctors and staff at Alabama Pediatric Dental Associates & Orthodontics!

I've also learned a lot of fun facts from the doctors and staff at APDA. Here's some fun dental facts you can share with your family and friends!

Fun Dental Fact #1:

Elephant Blowing BubblesDid you know an elephant has two upper molars and two lower molars? Its molars are one foot across and weigh about 9 pounds! 9 pounds for one tooth? Can you believe that? Elephants don't chew their food, they grind it. After about 10 years of grinding down at least a hundred pounds of vegetation daily, their teeth are worn down to the gum line and they fall out. New teeth then reappear. An elephant may go through six sets of teeth in its lifetime!

Fun Dental Fact #2:

Children begin to develop their primary (baby) teeth 6 weeks after conception.

Fun Dental Fact #3:

Cheese CalciumCheese contains calcium, which is important for strengthening teeth. Also, eating cheese can prevent dental cavities from forming because it reduces the amount of harmful acid in the mouth. In fact, Swiss, Monterrey Jack and aged cheddar are the best cheeses to eat for your teeth!

Fun Dental Fact #4:

People who drink 3 or more sugary sodas per day have 62% more cavities, fillings, and tooth loss.

Fun Dental Fact #5:

TeethJaw muscles can contract with a force as great as 55 pounds of pressure on anterior incisors, and 200 pounds of pressure on back molars.
